See and do in Rute
Rute is a beautiful parish with many natural values. The restaurant Sjökrogen, Fabriken Furillen restaurant and Rute stone oven bakery. A walk by the rauks at Lergravsporten is always a great nature experience which can awaken any ones imagination, especially the imagination of the younger visitors.
Culture/NatureRute parish is beautifully located on the northern east coast of Gotland. Here you can visit places like Valleviken, Furillen, Lergrav, Husken and Fardume. The landscape mainly consists of large meadows, and inland lake, rauks, farming landscape, forest areas and one of the most beautiful stretch of coast on Gotland.
Around the area there are a lot of things that remind us of the former most common occupation in the area which was to work in the lime stone quarries.
Lergravsporten in the rauk area Lergrav in Rute is one of the strangest rauks on Gotland. At Lergrav the nature reserve Husken nature treats you to an open landscape and you have an amazing view of the sea from the rauk fields. Here you can also buy fresh fish in a small fishing station.
Fardume träsk is an inland lake in Rute. You can find plants that are not very common on Gotland, like heather, bog-worhtel-berry, devil's bit and tormentil. The lake also attracts a lot of birds because of its water level, highly nutrient water and varied vegetation. For example cranes come here to stay the night and the birds you are most likely to see here in Water Rail, coot, bittern, brown harrier, common reed bunting, bearded reedling and grey goose.
Furillen is a peninsula located between Husken and Lergrav and has a fantastic barren landscape. In an old factory on Furillen is a gorgeous luxury hotel located. The hotel Fabriken Furillen has its own restaurant and café.
If you explore Furillen by bicycle you can find secluded bathing bays and beautiful places for a picnic. In Valleviken in Rute there is a harbour for visitors and a beach.
ACTIVITIES:In Valleviken you can choose to either relax or try one or several of the activities at hand. You can for example visit the SPA or try Hatha-yoga, which is suitable for all ages. There are several beautiful nature areas that you can explore either by renting a bike, renting a kayak and paddle along the coast or by taking a walk along the beach. In Valleviken you can also choose from several water activities. You can rent a motorboat and go on a fishing trip or try wakeboarding.
Risungs gård is the largest producer of ecological lamb meat on Gotland. In their farm shop you can buy lamb skin and yarn made on the farm. The farm also has a Lagotto Romagnolo kennel, which is a dog that is great at finding truffles. Truffles safari can be arranged for small companies between October first and November last.

Rute Stenugnsbageri is a lovely little spot on Gotland. Here you can smell the newly baked bread made from ecological and mainly locally produced ingredients, and baked in a wood fired oven. You can also enjoy pastries and sandwiches which are made here in the café. Some ecological products can be bought in the bread shop.
Sjökrogen Valleviken is a nice restaurant and café in the harbour. Sjökrogen strives to make food the gotlandic way using locally produced ingredients. During the summer season there is also an outdoor seating area quay side where a light lunch, coffee and pastries are served. You can also buy freshly smoked fish and different kinds of takeaway here.
