See and do in Burs

Burs is the village with the popular beach Herta. But here is also museum farms, cafés and plenty of ancient monuments. The best known is the treasure of Stavgard. At the coast there are several beautiful fishing villages and in the villages around Burs there are many good craftsmen with open workrooms.

CULTURE:

Stavgard is an event park in Burs where you as a visitor are able to try the life as on the Iron Age. Open to the public during summertime, then only for prebooked groups. From the Iron Age village Stavgard there is a start out for a footpath, approx 3 km, with several stations that will show many of all the relics of the past found in the area.

Vanges farm museum where you can see how to run a farm during the older days on Gotland.

Schoolmuseum is situated in the old woodshed of the poorhouse. During the years old schoolmaterial from the school in Burs, gifts from other schools and private persons have been collected here.

Burs church is a beautiful church of Gotland with a gotlandic crucifix of wood from the 13th century.

The Giant is a statue in wood right in the middle of Burs. The statue is raised as a memory of Gustaf Edman that was an exceptional big man who lived in the village at the end of 19th century. He was so big that people came to see him for money in Sweden but also abroad.

COST/BATH:

Herta is a nice sandy beach where you can take the children, shallow with playground. At the kiosk you can buy a hot dog and so on. Right by the beach is the old fishing village well worth a visit.

SIGHTS:

Hummelbos meadow is an old nice meadow and right next to it is Hjorterianernas chapel. Hjorterianerna, named by the founder Jöns Hjorter, was the only domestic revivalist movement on Gotland. Hjorterianernas chapel is Swedens oldest preserved chapel for free churches.

Herta fishing village is one of the picturesque fishing villages in Burs. The others named Krakstäde and Tomtebods fishing villages are well worth a visit.

RESTAURANG & CAFÉ:

Burs café offers many alternative in a nice environment. Café, catering, lunch and a la carte. Also barbcues in the evening during summer time.

GOLF:

From Burs it is not longer than ten kilometres to two 18 holes golf course. In one direction you have Gumbalde Golf course in Stånga and in the other direction När Golf course is situated. Both golf courses have nice restaurants with daily specials and a la carté.
